Wag takes 40% of every walk. Rover takes 20% plus fees.

Pet care apps built billion-dollar businesses on the backs of animal lovers. They take massive cuts, control your client relationships, and can deactivate you without notice or appeal.

  • Wag keeps 40% of every walk booking - nearly half your earnings vanish
  • Rover charges 20% plus service fees on top, eating into what pet parents pay
  • Platforms own your client relationships - you cannot contact families directly
  • Deactivation without warning means losing every client you built trust with
  • No say in pricing, policies, or the rules that govern your livelihood

How your workday changes

4Pet parent wants to rebook you directly. Platform blocks it.
5Client leaves a question. Platform controls the conversation.
6End of day: 6 walks, $50 in your pocket after fees.

✓ On Canis

Pet care workers speak up

I walked dogs on Wag for three years and watched them take almost half of every booking. On Canis, I set my own rates and keep 90%. I make more walking four dogs a day than I used to make walking eight.

The best part is not the money, even though that changed my life. It is that I actually know my clients now. Their dogs know me. We have a relationship. On Rover, I was just a profile picture.

When my regular client needed emergency overnight boarding, I could say yes immediately. No platform approval, no waiting for a booking to clear. I run my own business now, and the cooperative has my back.

Canis is owned by the pet care workers who use it. Instead of a corporation extracting 20-40% of every booking, Canis charges only 10% to cover real operating costs. Workers set their own rates, build direct relationships with pet parents, and vote on all major decisions.

Joining Canis is free. There are no upfront membership fees during our launch period. Once you start taking bookings, the cooperative charges a 10% platform fee to cover insurance, payment processing, and app maintenance. That is it. No hidden charges.

Yes. You decide what your time is worth. The cooperative provides rate guidance based on your area and service type, but the final pricing is always your call. No race-to-the-bottom algorithmic pricing.

Canis provides liability coverage for all active bookings, including walks, pet sitting, and boarding. Coverage details are decided collectively by members and reviewed annually. This is real protection, not a marketing line.

Every member gets one vote. You elect a board of directors from among the membership, and that board handles day-to-day decisions. Major policy changes like fee adjustments, insurance changes, or new service categories go to a full member vote.

Absolutely. Direct relationships are a core part of Canis. Pet parents can book their preferred walker or sitter directly. No algorithmic gatekeeping, no platform blocking repeat bookings to maximize its own cut.

Dog walking, pet sitting (in-home visits or overnights), grooming, and boarding. We are expanding service categories based on member input. If enough members want to offer a new service, it gets added.

We are launching in select cities and expanding based on demand. Sign up to join the waitlist for your area. When we have enough interested workers and pet parents in your city, we launch. Every new city is a new cooperative chapter.
